Atria has its own feed-producing company, A-Feed Ltd (A-Rehu Oy), which has production plants in two locations: Koskenkorva in Ilmajoki and Varkaus. The company was founded to address the needs of farmers in Atria's own chain. This enables us to act as a partner to our producers when working to develop the entire animal feed chain, from planning feeding to feed manufacturing and delivery.
Planning of feeding is based on health promotion and the goal of optimal production results. Atria's feeding solutions favour the local feeds based on the use of grain produced on the farm or in its vicinity as part of component or mixed feed. Feed for cattle is always based on high-quality grass-based feed produced on the farm.
Comprehensive industrial feeds are primarily manufactured from Finnish grain by grinding minerals, micronutrients, vitamins and other essential components into the feed. Ground feed is pressed into pellets and transported to farms. A-Feed can also transport grain directly from one farm to another if required.
A-Feed is also a significant user of by-products from the food industry. We deliver feed components from the food industry directly to farms. Such components include barley mash, which is a by-product of beer brewing, and starch produced in the manufacture of grain ethanol at Altia's Koskenkorva plant. A-Rehu also uses parts of potatoes that are discarded by the potato industry to make animal feed, along with dairy products to make liquid feed for calves and pigs.
A-Feed Ltd is Finland's second largest industrial feed manufacturer.
